TRACK INFORMATION

Mathematical models and simulation play an important role in various fields of biology and medecine. Physiological investigations of metabolic systems often employ tracers -substances labelled with radioisotropes or stable isotropes- which require mathematical models and methods for parameter
estimation as well as simulation for model verification.

In investigation of the action of drugs pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic models are used for the description of drug distribution between body compartments and for calculation of important pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters. In both of these investigations the theory of comportemental models and non comportemental approaches are being utilized. Mathematical models and simulations are also used in description of artificial organs -patient systems to design the treatment procedure, as in hemodialysis of peritoneal dialysis treatments.

The new approach to mathematical models of physiological system and organs is to build very detailed models which would allow for computer simualtion of biological experiments and, thus, elimination of the use of laboratory animals, living tissues or cell cultures.

The above specified fields of applications of mathematical models and simulation do not comprise all application in biomedecine and papers partaining at other directions are welcome.
