Savona

The Coat of Arms

First design of the Arms of Savona is one thousand years old. The town was involved heavily in the European wars of the Middle Ages as a Ghibelline (supporter of the Emperors forces against the Popes) stronghold.
The sign changed many times just based on the success or defeat on battlefields;
but finally, in the second half of the last century, it came back to the original look that we can see in this picture.
