SESSION I APPLICATIONS
Microsoft
Flanders Language Valley
European Datacom
CBT
This presentation will show state-of-the-art in language learning
technology and will give an insight into the practical use of the newest eductional
psychology and experiences, gained in applied field testing. The a c e
software is an open and flexible tool to create personalized language exercises from the
Internet and company documents. In the hands of the language teacher, a c e
caters for more effective and more enthusiastic language learning. The process starts from
the specific interests of the learner/trainee. He/She is provided with specific exercises
focused on his/her individual level, appealing to various elements of the learners
own learning style. In addition, the wide range of exercises stimulates the various
linguistic competences (in the field of lexicon, grammar, semantics and phonology).
This project is supported by IWT, Flemish government to develop
internet based technology and concepts which will be demonstrated.
Speaker: Christian De Wilde, CEO
ODL
IBM
DIERCKX-LAMBRECHT
MEDSCHOOL
A project initiated by Starlab, Brussels, that will allow anyone
accessing the Internet to become a medicine doctor. A curriculum will start with 3 year
100% remote learning after which the student will switch between remote learning and
physical training in different sites all over the world
The project is getting support from the World Health Organisation
(WHO) and Médecins Sans Frontiers.
SESSION II: ENABLING TECHNOLOGIES

E-commerce for everybody. Much has been said about the
technologies, the applications and the functionalities of the ultimate e-commerce site.
Whistles and bells keep you fascinated by the web pages, but does it pay off ? And what
about your business, should you really start investing in tailored made extra expensive
sales channels ? This lecture provides the answer for the SME wanting to deploy a commerce
activity on the net. Be it a shop, and auction or any other variation on the theme.
Effective in both cost and time, these solutions bring companies on the e-commerce lane,
whilst allowing them to grow as their experience in this new marketplace accumulates.
Speaker: Bart
Verhaegen, CEO
UBIZEN
SWIFT
INTEGRI
One of the key prerequisites for installing an infrastructure for
electronic finance is the reliability and dependency of the infrastructure. Quality
control taken to its outer limits is the only means by which the providers of e-finance
can ensure their service and as such the growth of theeé???-finance activity world wide.
Integri is a show case of technology incubated in a small company of eager and qualified
people contributing to the construction of global e-finance, providing technology and
service to the world leaders in financial transactions, to name some: SWIFT, VISA ...

SESSION III: INCUBATING GROWTH
HEADTRICK
Headtrick is an European venture, deploying business concepts
that build upon the opportunities for media, content and e-commerce in the context of the
merging of television and Internet. Gilders law states that the total bandwidth of
communication systems will triple every 12 months (www.forbes.com/asap/gilder/). Building
concepts that allow the e-business to be profitable today will generate extreme growth in
revenue and shareholders value with every month the bandwidth increases and the community
of users further develops (Bob Metcalf (www.xerox.com) the power of a network grows as the
square of the number of users on the net).
Speaker: Ben Jans, CEO
IWT
With intellectual property accounting for a substantial portion
of the Gross National Product of all European countries, governmental authorities are
increasingly spending public funding on the development and commercialisation of
technology.
The European Commission has launched the ambitious 5th
Framework Programme (FP5) for the Funding of Research and Technological Development (RTD)
with an allocated budget of EURO 14,960,000,000.
Initiated by the Flemish Governement the IWT is the spokesman for
all funding opportunities (including FP5) available to both universities and private
companies active in the field of research and development.
PYTHAGORAS
Capital is one of the base material of any business to grow. It
is only one of the base elements of growth, and in the current setting in Europe it is
becoming a commodity.
At Pythagoras n.v. we believe in maximising the potential succes
of the business and investment by making capital investments in businesses we understand
thoroughly.
Succes is often directly related to the strengths of the people
behind the venture. Pythagoras n.v. provides the essential industry expertise. A team of
managing partners brings complementary experience in various disciplines to augment the
understanding of the IT industry. In addition, the Pythagoras approach is to nurture a
world-wide network of entrepreneurs and industry experts, and by connecting people, to
create growth opportunities for entrepreneurial companies and share value for Pythagoras
Participations.
